The Burrum Heads Amateur Fishing Club is more than just a fishing club full of ‘FishOholics’. Through our Social Coordinator members enjoy the 3 weekly BBQ’s which allows members to catch up and socialise as this is a core element of the success of the club.

Members who love fishing also plan a wide range of social activities including camping trips to hinterland lakes and beaches,

winery and shopping tours, as well as informal gatherings to celebrate holidays and other community events.

The Club commenced in 1991 with only a few members. It was formed from the original Howard Fishing Club and has grown in leaps and bounds from there. The Club is a not for profit organization based on fun, friendship and of course fishing. Members strive to promote friendship and a spirit of community participation through club competitions, social activities and direct contributions to the community.

The Club is open to all members of the community irrespective of age and fishing ability with junior club members benefitting from the knowledge, wisdom, and the tall fishing stories of senior members. A recreational lifestyle is offered to club members through their participation in the three weekly club fishing competitions held across the year. Also the opportunity to participate in all the other local fishing club competitions including the inter-club challenge held between all the clubs on the Fraser Coast.

Weighing in fish at the club competition BBQ’s gives members the opportunity to accumulate points on a per fish basis which cumulatively go towards trophies and prizes at the annual presentation evening. The three weekly BBQ’s held at our Club House on Burrum Heads RoadAdjacent to the Bowls Club, allow members to catch up and socialise, as this is a core element of this successful club. Our Social Coordinator also plans a wide range of social activities including camping trips to beaches and hinterland lakes, winery and shopping tours, also informal gatherings to celebrate holidays and community events.

The Club promotes environmental awareness through programs and social activities which are designed to keep members up to date on rules and regulations. All members are encouraged to maintain and increase their knowledge and understanding of sustainable fishing practices.

The Club is the home and proud host of the Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic which has grown in stature and reputation over 27 years to become an annual top event on the Fraser Coast. It sees Club members dedicate their time and efforts to deliver a wonderful family event. The Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic is the one major fundraising event of the Club for the year.
